Punjab: Mission Samarth 4.0 to boost learning achievements in schools

Punjab: In a major step towards improving the quality of education in government schools, the Punjab government has announced the launch of “Mission Samarth 4.0.” Aimed at strengthening basic learning skills among students, this initiative will be implemented from April 1, 2026, for classes III to VIII during the 2026-27 academic session. In accordance with the guidelines of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), a robust monitoring system has been established to ensure the program’s effective implementation. District Education Officers, DIET principals, and Block Primary Education Officers (BPEOs) have been directed to visit schools at least twice a week during the first half of school to closely review on-ground activities.
In addition, cluster head teachers and other inspection team members will visit two schools daily to monitor progress. During these visits, officials will not only review records but also randomly assess at least three students, focusing specifically on those lagging behind in targeted learning outcomes. Evaluation will be based on the “Teaching at the Right Level” (TaRL) approach. To ensure transparency, officials will be required to upload visit reports, including observation and assessment formats, to the e-Punjab app. Regular review meetings will be held every two weeks at the district, block, and cluster levels, while school heads will conduct weekly reviews. The Education Department emphasized that the purpose of these visits is not merely inspection, but also to provide academic support and guidance to teachers, creating a more conducive learning environment for students.
