Punjab: Man arrested for demanding extortion money

Punjab: Ropar police have arrested gangster Inderpal Singh for allegedly trying to extort “goonda tax” from stone crusher owners in the Nangal and Anandpur Sahib subdivisions in the name of AAP leaders from Delhi. He was produced before a judicial magistrate in Nangal, who remanded him to two-day police custody on Saturday. Stone crusher owners in the Nangal and Anandpur subdivisions had complained to Nangal DSP Kulveer Singh Thakkar on August 19 that a man claiming to be a representative of the AAP’s central leadership was demanding a “tax” of Rs 4 per cubic foot on their goods sold. They alleged that the man told them the amount would go to the AAP’s central leadership. They identified the man as Inderpal Singh and provided the police with his mobile number, voice recording, and vehicle number. The DSP said Inderpal Singh, a resident of Hardoshani Road, Gurdaspur, was arrested in Gurdaspur on Friday evening. He will be produced before a judicial magistrate.
