Punjab: Malerkotla police demonstrated crowd control techniques
Punjab: Malerkotla Police Malerkotla Police has started teaching crowd handling and riot control skills to its personnel. SHOs and beat officers have been instructed to ensure that all policemen under their jurisdiction are aware of crowd management. Malerkotla SSP Gagan Ajit Singh said policemen posted in various wings of the three sub divisions have been given basic tips to deal with crowds and anti-social elements in difficult situations.
Policemen were also asked to use vajra and other paraphernalia under their supervision as part of the mock drill organised at the district level. “During the mock drill, people were called to play the role of protesters and rioters. The policemen displayed professional skills in controlling the crowd,” the SSP said. DSP (Special Branch) Ranjit Singh Bains said SHOs and beat officers have been advised to ensure that policemen working under their jurisdiction are well versed with crowd management and riot control techniques. “Though we are given intensive training in riot control and crowd management during course work, mock drills are conducted to check the preparedness of our force,” Bains said.
