Punjab: Hockey Olympian police officer inspiring next generation of players
Punjab: Budding hockey players were thrilled to meet Hockey Olympian SSP Gagan Ajit Singh at a sub-division level hockey tournament held in Amargarh. The event was part of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan, a state-wide initiative to promote sports and awareness against drug abuse among youth. Nankana Sahib Public School in Rampur Chhanna and Sher-e-Punjab Hockey Club Amargarh were the winners and runners-up respectively. SP (H) Swaranjit Kaur and DSP Amargarh Davinder Singh Sandhu presided over various sessions while SSP Gagan Ajit Singh was the chief guest.
MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra’s son Rubal Gajjanmajra, sports promoter Nisar Mohammad, MD Swaranjit Singh and Sarabjit Singh Gogi felicitated the winning teams and outstanding performers. According to SHO Gurpreet Kaur, convener of the event, the district police organised sports events in Malerkotla, Ahmedgarh and Amargarh under the supervision of SSP Gagan Ajit Singh. Earlier, similar programmes were organised under the supervision of DSP Manavjit Singh Sidhu and DSP Kuldeep Singh. SSP Singh stressed on the importance of sportsmanship in lifestyle and urged parents to encourage their wards to participate in sports.
