Punjab: Hand grenade, pistol seized, two arrested

Punjab: The counter intelligence wing has busted a module operated by UK-based Nishan Singh and arrested two persons with firearms, including a hand grenade, a pistol and four cartridges. The AIG said that acting on a tip-off, the CI team conducted an operation at Bahadurwala village and apprehended Jagtar Singh alias Jagga on January 8. During the search, the CI team seized a pistol with four cartridges from him and confiscated a motorcycle, he said. His associate Jashanpreet Singh alias Jashan of Nangal Guru village in Amritsar managed to escape from the spot, the AIG said, adding that Jashan was nabbed from Maharashtra. Based on interrogation of the accused, the CI seized a hand grenade from Harike Khalra near Patti Maur in Tarn Taran. The AIG said that the accused were planning to target an officer or police station of Amritsar district on the instructions of Nishan. He said that the registration number of the seized motorcycle was tampered with.
