Punjab: Government notified the date of transplanting of paddy in the state

Punjab: The government on Wednesday issued a notification extending the date of transplantation of paddy to June 1. The move comes despite objections from agriculture experts and farmer unions. According to the notification, direct sowing of paddy will be done from May 15 to 30; transplantation will be done from June 1 in Ferozepur, Muktsar, Fazilka, Bathinda and Faridkot; from June 5 in Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ropar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib and Hoshiarpur; and from June 9 in other districts.
Teachers’ union to hold two-day statewide protest
Chandigarh: Terming the alleged police brutality against teacher recruitment as a “blatant misuse of state power” to suppress democratic dissent, the Democratic Teachers’ Front has announced a two-day statewide protest on April 24 and 25. The incident, which took place on April 19 in Anandpur Sahib, the native village of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, had sparked outrage across the teacher community.
Farmers cheated by traders
Abohar: Farmers of Kerakheda and Rajpura villages have complained that some traders who bought about 50 tonnes of wheat from them have closed their shops and fled. The farmers said that the traders had promised to give them incentives, but they disappeared without paying them.
