Punjab: Gangster’s plan to avenge his mother’s death fails, 5 arrested

Punjab: Gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s plan to take revenge for his mother’s murder backfired when Batala police got wind of his plan and managed to arrest five of his accomplices who were planning to execute the conspiracy. The arrested persons have been identified as Lovepreet Singh, Sikander Kumar alias Gola, Omkarpreet Singh alias Jashan, Gagandeep Singh alias Gyani and Mehakpreet Singh, residents of Shahabad under Rangar Nangal police station. Except Mehakpreet Singh, who hails from Amritsar, the other four are residents of Batala subdivision. Police also recovered two pistols from them. The operation was jointly carried out by Punjab’s counter-intelligence wing and police officials of Batala and Amritsar (rural).

The Batala police had suspected a gang war ever since the gangster’s mother was murdered in the last week of June. SSP Suhail Qasim Mir said, “The police were prepared to deal with any situation after jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s group openly vowed to take revenge for the murder of his mother and cousin.” Bhagwanpuria’s mother Harjeet Kaur and his cousin Karanveer Singh were shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants from a close range in their car outside their house on the Batala-Qadian road. The Davinder Bambiha group had claimed responsibility for the attack. The SSP said the operation was still underway based on intelligence inputs. The police hoped to arrest more of Bhagwanpuria’s associates soon. The prime accused in the case is US-based Hussaindeep Singh, who is believed to be close to Bhagwanpuria. He was in charge of the entire plan.
