Punjab: Four people including a female drug smuggler arrested with 5 kg heroin

Punjab: Amritsar city police have arrested a woman kingpin among four drug peddlers and seized 5.2 kg of heroin from her possession. The woman drug peddler has been identified as Mandeep Kaur (27) of Ibban Kalan village here. She used to wear police uniform to carry drugs to evade police’s notice. Police have also arrested two other accomplices named Alam Arora (23) and Manmeet alias Golu (24), both residents of Janta Colony in Chheharta area. An 18-year-old boy from Tarn Taran, whose name has been withheld by police, has also been arrested in the case. He was also allegedly part of the gang. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that as per initial investigation, Mandeep was in a relationship with a man who introduced her to Pakistan-based smugglers.

She originally belonged to Khalra village in Tarn Taran district near the international border. “She used to pose as a police officer to smuggle drugs,” the DGP said. He said further investigations were underway to unearth their links. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said police had received intelligence about a drug racket being operated by a woman. Acting on the leads, police zeroed in on the widow Mandeep Kaur and also arrested Alam and Manmeet from Chheharta. The interrogation of Mandeep led to the arrest of their fourth accomplice. “His role in the case and past record are being investigated by police. Hence, his name has been withheld for now,” he said. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Chheharta police station here.
