Punjab: Firing outside a shop caused panic

Punjab: An atmosphere of panic prevailed in the area after two men on a motorcycle opened fire outside a general store in Dera Baba Nanak on Monday evening. Shopkeepers pulled down their shutters as they rushed to their homes after hearing the gunshot. Incidentally, the shop owner Mahesh Kumar said he had been receiving constant threats from Germany-based gangster Jeevan Fauji that his men would “soon kill him.”

Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said three months ago he had asked Batala SSP Suhail Qasim Mir to issue gun licences to Mahesh Kumar and another shopkeeper, Sunil Kumar. “Both are on Jeevan Fauji’s hit list,” he said. However, the SSP said files of both Mahesh and Sunil were being processed and the licences would be issued soon.
