Punjab: Farmers took out tractor march

Punjab: On the call of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), farmer unions took out tractor marches in Sangrur and Bhawanigarh on January 26 to protest against the draft National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing (NPFAM) and to demand acceptance of their other demands besides MSP guarantee law. Farmers gathered at Sangrur grain market. They took out a tractor march to Mahavir Chowk near the Civil Hospital. They were demanding the abolition of NPFAM, implementation of MSP law, loan waiver of farmers and farm labourers and monthly pension of Rs 10,000 to farmers and labourers above 60 years of age, etc. A tractor march was also taken out from Gharachoan village to Bhawanigarh. In Bhawanigarh, a march was taken out from the SDM office to the local grain market. Farmer leader Jagtar Singh Kalajhad said that the Center should repeal NPFAM and implement the MSP law.
