Punjab: Children of prisoners in jail will be enrolled in Anganwadi centers

Punjab: Children of women prisoners lodged in state jails will be enrolled in Anganwadi centres to provide them nutritious food and primary education. This was stated by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur during her visit to Faridkot jail. A government spokesperson said that the minister visited the Modern Central Jail in Faridkot where she interacted with women prisoners and assessed their basic needs. She also inaugurated a sewing centre in the jail to empower women prisoners by providing them skill development opportunities, increasing self-reliance and preparing them for life outside prison.

A cultural programme was organised in the jail where women enthusiastically showcased their talent and creativity. The minister was accompanied by Director Social Security, Women and Child Development Dr Shena Aggarwal and SSP Dr Pragya Jain. She further informed that the Punjab government is organising regular camps across the state to raise awareness about health check-ups of women and providing employment opportunities. She said such camps were organised recently in Faridkot district. He said the purpose of his visit to the jail was to assess the health condition of women inmates and the facilities available for their children.
