Punjab: After dodging loan agency for months, defaulter surrenders

Punjab: An interesting case has come to light in which a bank loan defaulter was dodging the officials of the home finance agency on the pretext of religious traditions. But finally he had to surrender before the law on Thursday and his property was sealed because he could not repay the loan. Bhikhiwind resident Kuldeep Chopra had taken a loan from ICICI Home Finance to build his house in Bhikhiwind, but could not repay the loan. The officials of the loan giving agency were coming to seal his house and take possession of the property for the last few months, but whenever they came, they found Akhand Paath going on in the house and had to return empty handed.
The officials of ICICI Home Finance approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court and in this regard orders were issued to the District Police Tarn Taran to provide police protection to get the property sealed. Home Finance officials led by its head Amit Kumar under the supervision of duty magistrate and police force visited the spot on Thursday and convinced the representatives of the religious organisation conducting the Akhand Paath that the defaulter Kuldeep Chopra was misleading them and using sacred Sikh traditions for his own selfish ends. The Sikh religious representatives agreed that on the conclusion of the Akhand Paath on Thursday, they would be free to seal the disputed property and this was done under the supervision of the police force. The defaulter of ICICI Home Finance had to surrender before the law. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Bhikhiwind, Preetinder Singh led the police force.
