Punjab: 4-year-old boy who fell into borewell rescued safely

Punjab: A tragic but successful rescue operation unfolded in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, where a four-year-old boy, Gurkaran Singh, was playing near his home and accidentally fell into a newly dug open borewell. The incident caused panic in the entire area, and the administration was immediately informed.

Upon receiving the information, local police, district administration teams, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived at the scene and launched a rescue and relief operation. Initial information indicated the borewell’s depth was approximately 20 to 30 feet, making rescuing the child a challenging task. The teams on the scene immediately formulated a rescue strategy and secured the surrounding area to ensure no obstruction to the rescue effort.

During the rescue operation, the administration arranged for an oxygen supply to the child trapped in the borewell to ensure he would not experience any breathing difficulties. For this purpose, a special tube was used, through which oxygen was continuously supplied. Cameras were also used to monitor the child’s movements to accurately assess his condition.

The rescue operation continued for several hours, supported by NDRF personnel, the local administration, and village volunteers. After a nine-hour intensive rescue operation, the teams were successful and the child was safely rescued. Upon his release, people at the scene breathed a sigh of relief and praised the rescue team.

According to officials, the child was immediately taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he received a medical examination and first aid. Doctors stated that the timely oxygen and prompt rescue operations saved the child’s life. He is currently in stable condition and is under observation.

This incident has once again raised questions about the safety of open borewells. The administration has appealed to local residents to immediately cover or properly secure open borewells to prevent future incidents. Officials also stated that negligence in such cases could lead to serious accidents.

Villagers breathed a sigh of relief and praised the efforts of the rescue teams. The successful rescue operation is being widely discussed throughout the area, and people are viewing it as a major relief.
