Punjab: 4 kg heroin seized, four drug smugglers arrested
Ferozepur: Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) officials arrested four drug peddlers and seized 4.255 kg heroin and drug money worth Rs 1.97 lakh from them. “The arrested persons include Swarn Singh (20) of Kamalewala village, Gurwant Singh (30) of Mastewala village, Sandeep Singh (23) of Hazara Ram Singh Wala of Jalalabad and Manpreet Singh (27) alias Mani of Noorpur village of Zira Sadar. They were apprehended near Ali’s village,” the SSP said.
Hawara acquitted in 2005 case under Arms Act
Mohali: A Kharar court acquitted Jagtar Singh Hawara in a 2005 case under the Explosive Substances Act and Arms Act registered at Sadar Kharar police station. Hawara participated in the proceedings through video conferencing from Mandoli jail in Delhi. Neither explosives were recovered from him nor was he arrested in the case, the defence counsel said.
Fazilka couple arrested for poppy husk smuggling
Abohar: Rajinder Singh and his wife Seema of Ghattianwali Bodla village in Fazilka were arrested in Sriganganagar. Rajinder Singh was allegedly hired to smuggle poppy husk from Lalgarh in Rajasthan to Fazilka after being paid Rs 4,000. SP Gaurav Yadav said 18.5 kg of poppy husk was recovered from them during checking near BSF Campus Road.
17,000 litres of raw liquor destroyed
Fazilka: Police and excise department on Monday destroyed over 17,000 litres of raw liquor in Abohar, Fazilka and Jalalabad areas. Excise officials and 300 policemen raided various places. The premises of 207 suspected liquor smugglers were searched, 13 persons were arrested and 257 litres of illicit liquor was seized.
