Punjab: 3 killed, 9 injured in road accidents

Punjab: Three people were killed and nine injured in two road accidents due to heavy fog in Fazilka district on Sunday. Sources said members of a family from border village Mohar Sona were heading towards Beas river to immerse the ashes of an elderly woman when the accident occurred. Their pick-up vehicle carrying 20 people collided with a truck-trailer coming from the opposite direction near Lakhe Karaiyan village on the Fazilka-Ferozepur highway. Dalbir Singh (50) and Ruku Bai (60) died on the spot while seven others sustained injuries.

They were rushed to civil hospital from where one of them was referred to Bathinda hospital. In another accident, a canter hit a bike, killing one person and injuring two others. Gurdev Singh, sarpanch of Jhanga Wala Uttar village, said three labourers were returning from the Maghi fair on a bike when the bike collided with a canter near Phalian Wala village, killing Paramjit Singh (30) and injuring two others. Eyewitnesses in both cases said dense fog was the reason behind the accidents.
