Punjab: 2 members of BKI terror module arrested

Punjab: Days after busting a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module, the Counter Intelligence (CI) Jalandhar has arrested two more operatives of the same module and seized one 86P hand grenade from their possession, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday. The arrested persons have been identified as Vishwajeet and Jackson, residents of Shankar area of Nakodar. Punjab Police arrested five operatives including Hrithik Narolia and Sonu Kumar alias Kali and three minors of the BKI module for their alleged involvement in the Nawanshahr grenade attack and seized 86P hand grenade and one .30 bore pistol from them, sources said.

DGP Yadav said that after the arrest of two BKI operatives Hrithik Narolia and one minor from Rajasthan a few days ago, the CI Jalandhar acted on forward and backward link and seized 86P hand grenade. Following the disclosure of the accused, their associate Vishwajit was arrested from Kolkata when he was trying to flee to Malaysia. He said that his accomplice Jackson was arrested from Nakodar, from whom the hand grenade was seized. Yadav said that all the accused were working on the instructions of Canada-based BKI kingpin Zeeshan Akhtar and Ajay Gill.

AIG CI Navjot Singh Mahal said that preliminary investigation revealed that accused Vishwajit and Jackson had recovered two hand grenades from Beas through their associates in the last week of July this year. He said that one of these hand grenades was exploded 10 days ago at a liquor shop in SBS Nagar by other members of the same module. The AIG said that further investigation is going on in the case and more arrests are likely in the coming days. He said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) Amritsar police station.
