Punjab: 10 kg heroin seized, four arrested

Punjab: Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has busted a gang involved in drug smuggling. Four persons hailing from Ferozepur were arrested and 10 kg heroin was seized from their possession. Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said that the arrests were made in connection with the arrest made a week ago, when 1 kg heroin and drug money worth Rs 4 lakh was seized from Shinda Singh of Chak Bhangowala Village, Ferozepur. A team of Jalandhar CIA staff caught Shinda while patrolling the area. An FIR was registered against him under sections 21C and 29 of the NDPS Act. Sharma said that four more accused of the same gang have now been arrested and 10 kg heroin has been seized from them.
The arrested persons have been identified as Harjinder Pal Singh, Veer Singh, Surmukh Singh and Maluk Singh. Sharma said that all the accused were involved in smuggling of heroin across the border and were connected with Pakistan-based smugglers and handlers. He said that they used hi-tech gadgets including drones to smuggle heroin from Pakistan. The CP said that an FIR is already registered against Harjinder Pal Singh and he was released from jail in 2022. The accused was in touch with the Pakistan Army and handlers including Riyasat Dogar, with whom he used to communicate using international numbers. All the other accused also have criminal records. They were involved in the drug trade for a long time. He said that further investigation in the case is still going on.
