Provide financial incentive to person who is married to PwD within 7 days: SSEPD Minister Nityananda Gond to officials

Bhubaneswar: Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Minister Nityananda Gond today directed the concerned officials to provide financial incentive to persons who are married to Person with Disability (PwD) within seven days.

While speaking to the newsmen, SSEPD Minister Nityananda Gond said, “While reviewing the works and schemes of the SSEPD Department, I got to know that several people have applied since long but are yet to get the financial incentive provided by the State government for marrying persons with disability.”

“I have directed the officials to ensure that the financial incentive is provided to the eligible persons as soon as possible. I also have asked them to take steps so that people do not face such problem in the future,” he added.

It is to be noted here that the Odisha government provides a cash award of Rs 2.5 lakh for the wedding between a normal person and a PwD with an aim to promote social harmony. However, the couple has to apply for the financial incentive along with their marriage registration certificate.

The Rs 2.5 lakh incentive will be credited in the joint account of the couple after proper scrutiny but they can withdraw the money only after three years under joint signature.
