Prominent Doordarshan anchor Sarla Maheshwari passes away

New Delhi: Sarla Maheshwari, a famous anchor who read news on Doordarshan, has passed away. She was 71 years old. Doordarshan paid tribute to the anchor’s death. She used to present Hindi news with a simple voice and clear pronunciation. On behalf of the Doordarshan family, DD tweeted on its official Twitter account that it is paying tribute to Sarla Maheshwari’s death. DD mentioned in her ex-husband’s statement that she was known as a highly respected newsreader on Doordarshan, that she had a special place in the Indian news world, that she impressed with her voice and accent, and that she seemed very simple.
Sarla Maheshwari joined Doordarshan in 1976. She became a full-time news reader in 1982. She covered events like the Asian Games in 1982 and the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. Her Hindi accent and light saree were her specialties. She was very consistent while reading the news. She read DD news during the Punjab militant massacre. She resigned in 2005.
In those days, she was known as an anchor who read news live. In 1976, she joined DD as a news announcer. She held that job while pursuing her PhD. She worked as a news anchor until 1984. After that, she worked for the BBC in Britain. She worked as a BBC news reader until 1986. She again joined Doordarshan in 1988.
