Project ASTRAM won the SKOCH Gold Award-2025.

Vijayawada: Project ASTRAM (Actionable Intelligence for Sustainable Traffic Management), a citizen-centric traffic management initiative conceived by NTR district commissioner of police S.V. Rajashekhara Babu, has won the SKOCH Award 2025 in the Gold category under Police and Safety, earning national recognition for excellence in governance and public service delivery.

The award was received by DCP (traffic) Shaik Shireen Begum, ACP (Special Branch) Bhanu Prakash Reddy and members of the ASTRAM technical team at the SKOCH awards ceremony held in Delhi on Saturday.

Launched in October 2024 and operating from the Police Command and Control Centre, Project ASTRAM aims to make public movement in Vijayawada faster, safer and smoother. Within a short span, the initiative has delivered measurable improvements in the city’s traffic management.
By leveraging artificial intelligence, real-time field intelligence and advanced simulations, the project has transformed traffic management from a reactive to a proactive system. As a result, traffic congestion has been reduced by 50 per cent, monthly congestion length by over 70 per cent and road accidents by nearly 30 per cent.

The initiative has also significantly reduced Green Channel holding time from 15–20 minutes to just one to two minutes, besides enabling identification of accident-prone zones. Proactive mapping of potholes and waterlogging areas, along with predictive traffic planning for peak hours, festivals and major public events, has further enhanced road safety and traffic efficiency.
