Process of forming new government in Tamil Nadu accelerates, Vijay appointed Chief Minister

Tamil Nadu: A major development has taken place in Tamil Nadu politics, with the Governor issuing a new order in Chennai, advancing the government formation process. After accepting the TDP’s letter of claim to form the government, Governor R. N. Ravi issued an order appointing TDP leader C. Joseph Vijay as Chief Minister.
This order, issued on Saturday, has further intensified political turmoil in the state. The order clarifies that Vijay will be sworn in as Chief Minister and must prove his majority in the Legislative Assembly within a stipulated timeframe.
It has also been decided that C. Joseph Vijay will be sworn in as Chief Minister on Sunday (May 10) at 10 a.m. at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The administration has made extensive preparations for the swearing-in ceremony, and security arrangements have been strengthened.
According to the government order, the new Chief Minister will be required to prove his majority in the Legislative Assembly by May 13. This directive has been issued under the state’s constitutional process to ensure the stability and legitimacy of the government.
The TDP won 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. However, the required support figure of 118 MLAs to form a government was not yet clearly met. Consequently, the government formation claim was advanced based on political alliances and letters of support.
According to sources, the Congress and Left parties had already announced their support to the TDP. Subsequently, the VKC and IUML also submitted letters of support, changing the political equation and paving the way for government formation.
With all this support, the alliance is claimed to have reached the required majority figure in the Assembly. Based on this, the Governor issued the appointment order, advancing the government formation process.
Tight security arrangements have been made in Chennai for the swearing-in ceremony. A heavy police force has been deployed at the venue, Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai, and the entire area has been cordoned off.
Political analysts believe that the Governor’s decision to set a deadline for proving majority indicates that the government formation process is still in its testing phase. A floor test in the Assembly in the coming days will determine the stability of this new government.
This development is being considered a significant turning point in Tamil Nadu politics, where a new government is being formed based on coalition support. All eyes are now on the swearing-in ceremony on May 10th and the subsequent floor test on May 13th.
