Problems of passengers increased at Nanguneri bus stand, allegations of ignoring government buses

Tamil Nadu: Passengers at the Nanguneri bus stand in Tirunelveli district are facing significant inconvenience. Commuters allege that many government buses are bypassing the bus stand entirely instead of stopping there. This situation has led to growing resentment among locals and travelers alike.
According to reports, numerous government buses traveling from major Tamil Nadu cities—such as Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Kanyakumari, and Nagercoil—pass through the Nanguneri area of Tirunelveli district. However, in recent years, the routes for many of these buses have been shifted to the bypass road, resulting in a drastic reduction in the number of buses stopping at the Nanguneri bus stand.
Local passengers report that drivers and conductors of buses operating between Tirunelveli and Nagercoil often tell them that the bus will not go to Nanguneri. Consequently, passengers are forced to wait for hours at the bus stand, uncertain about which buses will actually pass through Nanguneri and which will not.
Passengers also noted instances where buses did eventually pass through the Nanguneri bus stand, despite having been previously described as not stopping there. This has created confusion and dissatisfaction among the public.
Locals allege that bus operators have misled higher authorities by claiming that passenger volume at the Nanguneri bus stand is low, thereby justifying the use of the bypass route. Many buses are currently operating via the bypass based on this claim.
However, it has also come to light that the official route recorded in the station register lists Nanguneri as a stop, complicating the matter further. This raises the question: why are buses not stopping at the stand when Nanguneri is officially designated as part of their route?
Passengers state that this situation not only wastes their time but also makes it difficult for them to plan their journeys effectively. Many people are unable to reach their destinations on time, disrupting their daily lives.
Locals have urged the Transport Department to investigate the matter and ensure that all government buses strictly stop at the Nanguneri bus stand as per their scheduled routes.
Experts in the transport sector state that failure by buses to adhere to designated routes undermines the credibility of the entire public transport system. They have suggested implementing strict monitoring and digital tracking systems to resolve this issue.
For now, commuters in Nanguneri continue to grapple with this problem while awaiting a solution. The administration has not yet issued an official statement regarding the matter.
