Probe ordered after Hindu students were asked to offer ‘namaz’ at a Gujarat school
Bhuj (IANS). The District Education Officer (DEO) has initiated an inquiry into the alleged incident of Hindu students being asked to offer namaz at Pearl School in Mundra, Kutch district of Gujarat.
The DEO took cognizance of the matter and constituted a team to investigate the incident. She said that if found guilty, strict action will be taken against the school. His approval can also be canceled.
The incident came to light through a video circulating on social media, in which Hindu students at Pearl School were instructed to wear caps and offer namaz during Bakrid activities.
School principal Preeti Waghwani claimed that the namaz session organized on June 28 was a part of the school’s activities. He also apologized if anyone’s sentiments were hurt.
However, local MLA Anirudh Dave expressed concern over such activity, saying that activities like swimming, horse riding or music performance can be included, but prayers should not be a part of the school curriculum.
Dave has urged the DEO to take appropriate action in the matter. He also said that even though it was a holiday in the school on the day of the incident, the students were called and asked to offer prayers wearing Muslim clothes.
In another incident, Kids Kingdom School on Radhanpur Road in Mehsana in north Gujarat faced protests from locals, parents and Hindu organizations for ordering Hindu children to participate in Bakra Eid celebrations.
