Police not taking action against rape accused BJP leader: Assam Congress
Guwahati (IANS) | The Assam Congress has accused a local BJP leader of raping a 13-year-old girl in Tinsukhia district. The opposition party on Tuesday submitted a complaint to the State Commission for Women and claimed that the accused was let off despite the fact that an FIR was lodged against him as he is a leader of the ruling party. The victim’s mother has also committed suicide.
Assam Mahila Congress President Meera Borthakur went to the State Women’s Commission office to submit the memorandum.
The Congress party has demanded proper investigation and arrest of the accused in this matter.
It has been alleged that Samendra Roy alias Samudra Roy, president of a local BJP booth committee in Bordubi area of Tinsukia, raped the minor.
Assam Congress President Bhupen Bora said, some time ago a 13-year-old minor was raped by a BJP booth president in Bordubi area of Tinsukia district. Though an FIR has been registered at Bordubi police station, the police are yet to take any action including arresting the culprits.
He alleged that several local BJP members pressurized the family to withdraw the case.
According to Bora, the victim’s mother allegedly committed suicide on April 14 after she was unable to handle the circumstances.
The Congress had also formed a seven-member team to pursue the incident and meet the victim’s family.
