Police led a walkathon against drug abuse.

Vijayawada: NTR district Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu participated in a “No to Drugs” walkathon on Saturday, organized to raise awareness among the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse. The event was organized by the Eagle Team in collaboration with Aster Ramesh Hospitals.

The walkathon, which took place from the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium on Bandar Road to Benz Circle, saw participants chanting slogans against narcotics and appealing to the youth to stay away from drugs.

Addressing the gathering, the Police Commissioner said that a vigorous campaign against drugs has been underway since last year, and as part of intensifying these efforts, the Eagle Team has been launched to strengthen enforcement and preventive measures. He informed that within the limits of the NTR Police Commissionerate, the police have registered 22 cases under the PIT-NDPS Act and sent the accused to jail. He warned that the department would show zero tolerance and would deal strictly with anyone found consuming or selling ganja or other narcotics.

Emphasizing the seriousness of the law, Rajasekhar Babu said that the NDPS Act is stringent, and once caught, offenders could face severe legal consequences that could permanently impact their lives.

To further spread awareness and create social consciousness, the Police Commissioner announced that a cycle rally would be organized on January 27th with the slogan “Punitive March Against Drugs,” aiming to involve as many citizens as possible, especially students and youth, in the anti-drug campaign.

The rally was attended by Aster Ramesh Hospital Chairman Dr. Ramesh, Eagle IG A Ravi Krishna, Traffic DCP Sheikh Shireen Begum, police personnel, hospital staff, students, and the general public.
