Police bust inter-state cyber fraud gang in Bhubaneswar, arrests 12 members with 60 mobiles

Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police on Sunday busted an inter-state cyber fraud gang operating from Bhubaneswar and arrested 12 members with 60 mobiles and other incriminating materials.

Addressing a press meet, Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh informed that the Badagada Police and the Special Squad of the Commissionerate Police busted the inter-state cyber fraud gang based on specific intelligence and arrested 12 members.

The 12 arrested persons include 7 from Bihar, 4 from Kerala and 1 from Odisha, he added. A total of 60 mobile phones, multiple laptops, gift cards, and lottery cards were seized from their possessions, he mentioned.

The Police Commissioner informed that the gang had been operating from a rented house in the Badagada area of Bhubaneswar. One Debashis Tripathy had given the house on rent and was part of the cyber fraud.

According to the Police Commissioner, the fraudsters used to cheat people by giving them several lucrative offers through various online platforms, digital applications, and fraudulent schemes and lotteries. They used to target people across different states mostly from Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand.

The preliminary probe reveals that the arrested persons have dupe people of over Rs 20 crore, however; further investigation into the matter is underway, Singh informed.
