Police book Rahul Mamkootathil’s friend Feni Ninan for revealing the victim’s identity

Pathanamthitta: Kerala police have filed a case against Feni Ninan, a Youth Congress leader and close associate of expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. He is accused of revealing the identity of a woman whose complaint led to the MLA’s arrest in a sexual assault case.

According to police sources, the Pathanamthitta Cyber Police have filed a case against Ninan under non-bailable sections. He is accused of revealing the identity of the complainant and posting objectionable content on social media platforms. The case is reportedly related to a Facebook post shared by Ninan on Friday.

Denying the allegations, Ninan claimed that he neither revealed the victim’s identity nor used any obscene language. He described the police action as political harassment, saying, “Anyone who has read my post will understand that I neither revealed the complainant’s identity nor used any obscene language against her.” He said he would seek bail and approach the Kerala High Court to challenge the legal validity of the FIR.

Legal action was taken over the controversial social media posts and WhatsApp chats. A day earlier, Ninan had shared screenshots of alleged WhatsApp conversations, claiming they were between him and the victim. He used these posts to make counter-allegations, stating that the woman had contacted him in October 2025 for help meeting Rahul Mamkootathil.

However, the woman responded on Friday by publicly releasing an audio clip, contradicting Ninan’s version of events. She alleged that it was Ninan who initially contacted her via Instagram and gradually gained her trust.

According to the woman, only selected portions of their chats were shared online to create a misleading narrative. She claimed that Ninan advised her not to disclose her relationship with Mamkootathil and assured her that no other woman was involved.

She further alleged that Ninan was told that Mamkootathil denied responsibility for her pregnancy and subsequently prevented her from contacting him. In the audio statement, she said, “He calmed me down and put me at ease. He told me not to tell anyone.”

The victim alleged attempts to avoid meetings and misleading tactics. The complainant stated that she learned of similar allegations against Mamkootathil in August 2025, when media reports surfaced. When she spoke to him, he claimed that the allegations were fabricated and fabricated by the media.

She further alleged that when she insisted on meeting at his home in Adoor, he suggested a second meeting in Palakkad, and asked her to coordinate through Ninan. However, when she tried to finalize the meeting, both men allegedly avoided her.

Ninan later suggested meeting at an office location, which she declined, citing security concerns. She claimed that after traveling to Palakkad without informing Mamkootathil, he refused her calls and his staff misled her at several locations, preventing the meeting from taking place. “As a married woman, I had come forward expecting such a reaction,” she said. “I want to lovingly tell Ninan that I will not be afraid to face these things.”

Rahul Mamkootathil remains in jail despite multiple cases

Rahul Mamkootathil, who won the Palakkad Assembly by-election last year, is currently lodged in the Mavelikkara sub-jail after being arrested based on a complaint from the victim. Police have confirmed that two other cases of sexual harassment were previously filed against him.

Following the rape case, the Congress party expelled Mamkootathil from the party and distanced itself from the controversy, which has sparked widespread political debate in Kerala.
