PMK demands abandonment of projects against environment

Tamil Nadu : PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss has demanded that the state government abandon projects against the environment. He issued a statement on this on Thursday: The United Nations has proposed ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ as the theme for World Environment Day 2025. The UN Plastic Treaty negotiations will begin in Geneva in August to revive the UN treaty against plastic pollution. The theme of World Environment Day this year has been proposed to support this. Controlling plastic pollution is an urgent need to save the world. The United Nations should immediately develop a global, comprehensive plastic treaty. In particular, the UN Plastic Treaty should legally bind countries around the world. It should cover the entire life cycle of plastics from production to pollution in the oceans. There should be transparent mechanisms to ensure the implementation of the agreement. There should be international technical and financial support for the implementation of the agreement. It is necessary that everyone supports such a comprehensive plastic agreement. The Tamil Nadu government should take serious steps to eliminate plastic pollution. The Single-Use Plastic Ban Act should be properly implemented. The Tamil Nadu government is planning to set up a plastic waste incineration plant at the Kodungaiyur garbage dump at a cost of Rs 1,026 crore, which it claims will generate electricity by burning garbage. This is a dangerous project. He said the project will cause several harms such as air pollution, health hazards, greenhouse gas emissions causing global warming and economic losses, so it should be completely abandoned.
