PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of the new corridor of Delhi Metro today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for two additional corridors of Phase IV of Delhi Metro during an event at JLN Stadium on Thursday. These corridors will connect Indralok to Indraprastha and Lajpat Nagar to Saket G block. These will be more than 20 km long. The construction of the new corridor was approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister on Wednesday. Its construction will cost Rs 8,399 crore. For this the Central Government will provide Rs 4,309 crore. The remaining amount will be obtained from Delhi government and international funding agencies. Indralok-Indraprastha Corridor Green Line will be expanded. This corridor will have interchange facilities with Red, Yellow, Airport Line, Magenta, Violet and Blue lines. This Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor will connect Silver, Magenta and Pink Lines.
Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor will be elevated. There will be eight stations on it – Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar and Saket G Block. There will be about 11.35 km of underground lines and 1.03 km of elevated lines on the Indralok-Indraprastha corridor. It will have 10 stations – Indralok, Daya Basti, Sarai Rohilla, Ajmal Khan Park, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, LNJP Hospital, Delhi Gate, Delhi Secretariat, and Indraprastha.
Indralok-Indraprastha line will provide better connectivity to Bahadurgarh region of Haryana. People from these areas will be able to travel on the Green Line to reach Indraprastha as well as other areas of Central and East Delhi. Eight new interchange stations will be built on this corridor – Indralok, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Lajpat Nagar, Chirag Delhi and Saket G Block. It is noteworthy that Delhi Metro is already expanding its network by 65 km in the fourth phase of its expansion. Currently, DMRC operates a network of 391 km comprising 286 stations. Delhi Metro is one of the fastest growing metro networks in the world.
