Phagwara: Urged to plant a tree and take care of it

Phagwara: Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anupam Kaler has stressed on the importance of environmental conservation. Chairing a special meeting at the Municipal Corporation Office today, Kaler highlighted the responsibility of every citizen to take care of trees in view of global warming and urged each person to plant and care for at least one tree. The meeting was attended by representatives of park maintenance committees and NGOs. Kaler said the real challenge lies in ensuring the care of the planted trees, appealing to the representatives of the committees and NGOs to plant and care for at least 200 saplings in their areas and parks.

He directed the horticulture department to provide saplings from the forest department and geo-tag each sapling. After the meeting, the MC commissioner launched the plantation drive by planting and adopting a sapling at the Municipal Corporation premises. Joint MC Commissioner Kulpreet Singh and Superintending Engineer Rajinder Chopra also planted and adopted a sapling each. Municipal Corporation employees also took a pledge to plant and adopt a sapling. The event was attended by members of the Park Maintenance Committee and representatives of NGOs, including Manish Prabhakar, Malkit Singh Ragbotra, Pawan Kumar Kalra, Satish Jain, Krishna Kumar, Amarjit Singh, Shakti Mahendru, Dr. Seema Rajan, Sunita Parashar, Gulshan Kapoor, Bhupinder Singh, Navita Rani, Vandana Sharma, Pramod Joshi, IP Khurana, Rakesh Sood and Balbir Singh.
