Party office is ready but BJP and Congress still occupy government bungalows
Delhi. Two major political parties of the country continue to occupy government bungalows in Lutyens Delhi. Even years after building their respective headquarters or having land, they are using them as party offices. In this way, the rules and regulations made regarding government bungalows are clearly being violated. According to the rule, political parties should vacate the government bungalow three years after acquiring land for the party office or completion of construction. However, both BJP and Congress have still occupied it.
According to sources, in the year 2018, a notice was issued to Congress by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. In this, the party was appealed to vacate the government bungalow. Congress has already vacated 2 such bungalows so far. TOI’s report quoted sources as saying, ‘The rule applies to all political parties. Currently, BJP is occupying two government bungalows located on Ashoka Road and Pandit Pant Marg. Similarly, two bungalows located on Akbar Road and Raisina Road are being used by the Congress. So far, there is no indication that they are in a mood to vacate the government bungalow. At present, about 6 bungalows are occupied by political parties.’
The controversy over the government bungalow is also heated during the Delhi Assembly elections. BJP’s Delhi state president Virendra Sachdeva reached outside the house of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Wednesday. He claimed that Atishi has two bungalows. Sachdeva reached Atishi’s 17 AB Mathura Road bungalow located near the Supreme Court and attacked her sharply, calling her ‘Bungalowali Devi’. He asked how many bungalows Atishi wants. He said that this bungalow is allotted to Atishi, but the Chief Minister herself has never lived there. She has misused power and kept some of her political colleagues in the bungalow.
