Pari Murder Case: Accused awarded 20 years RI and Rs. 6000 fine

Nayagarh: In the much talked about Pari murder case, the accused has been awarded 20 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and Rs. 6000 fine. Pari was kidnapped while playing near her house in Nayagarh’s Jadupur village on July 14, 2020 and her skeletal remains were found dumped in a gunny bag in the bushes behind her house on July 23.

It is worth mentioning here that, Saroj Sethy the main accused had revealed that he had strangled Pari to death when he failed to rape her. The Orissa High Court had in December 2022 granted 10-day interim bail to main accused Saroj Sethy in the Pari murder case. The accused had prayed before the court to allow him on an interim bail on health ground.

As per the bail condition, the accused will surrender before the court after the end of his 10-day interim bail. He will undergo medical examination during the period of interim bail, he will not be allowed to meet anyone related to the case. Back in the year 2020, a major development in abduction and murder case of a five-year old Pari in Nayagarh district, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) picked up three persons of Jadupur village.

The SIT team picked up Saroj Sethi, his mother, and sister for questioning in connection with the minor girl abduction and murder case. It is worth mentioning here that the accused Saroj had alleged that Arun Bothra, who was heading SIT, had offered him Rs 5 lakh to take blame for Pari’s murder. On December 16, the SIT had submitted a report in which it was revealed that the five-year-old girl was raped and then murdered.
