Out of the CPM, now talks of entering the UDF; Congress’s new strategy in Malampuzha

PALAKKAD: The UDF is preparing to field A Suresh as its candidate in Malampuzha, the constituency of the late former Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan. Suresh, who confirmed that Congress leaders had spoken to him, said that he has not yet decided to contest. Suresh was a personal assistant to VS Achuthanandan and was later expelled by the CPM.”I don’t know why the Congress leadership made such a call. They are approaching people who want Left values ββto be protected. I understand that they have spoken to me as part of that,” Suresh said. “Although I have appealed against my expulsion from the party, no one has responded. It has been 12 years since I was expelled. I still remain a party supporter. I have not joined any other party. I do not intend to. I did not pursue them when I did not receive a response to my appeals. Left values ββare always in my mind,” A Suresh said.V.K. Srikandan MP responded to the media that the party leadership had discussed Suresh contesting in Malampuzha for UDF and that it is for the KPCC and the screening committee to decide.Malampuzha constituencyThe Malampuzha constituency, which came into existence in 1965, has been won by only the CPM till date. Prominent leaders of the party including V.S. Achuthanandan, E.K. Nayanar and T. Sivadasa Menon have represented Malampuzha on several occasions. A. Prabhakaran is the sitting MLA. The UDF has come third behind the BJP for the last two terms. The Congress is trying to pull off a surprise move by fielding A. Suresh, a loyal follower of V.S.
