Oppo downgrades SuperVOOC fast charging on the Find X8 Pro but with a positive aspect

Superfast charging has been a common feature among Android smartphone manufacturers across the globe and Oppo is not an exception to it. Well, the latest iteration of the SuperVOOC that is found in the Oppo Find X8 Pro offers a longer charging time (0-100 percent) as compared to the SuperVOOC on Oppo Find X7 Ultra that launched last year, mentioned a report by Android Authority. While maximum users see this as a downgrade, the report has mentioned the positive aspect of the feature.

While the Oppo Find X8 Pro takes about 50 minutes to get fully charged (0-100%), the older Oppo Find X7 Ultra achieved the feat under 30 minutes, mentioned the report.

However, the fast charging does come with a negative aspect-heating. According to the findings of the report, Find X7 Ultra recorder 38.4 °C (max) while charging. On the other hand, the Find X8 Pro hit 35.7 °C (max) while charging. This means that the Find X8 Pro is in a better spot as it has a mid-30s temperature. Speaking of the Find X7 Ultra, the maximum temperature on the device hovers close to 40 °C. Simply saying, the long-term battery health will be better than the Find X8 Pro.

The Find X8 Pro is also cooler as compared to the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra charging. While the Pixel 9 Pro XL gets 37W charging, the S24 Ultra gets 45W charging support. While charging the Pixel 9 Pro XL gets as hot as 41.8 °C while the Galaxy S24 Ultra gets as hot as 39.2°C. Both the device also takes longer charging time at 77 and 62 minutes each, mentioned the report.

Even though the latest version of SuperVOOC seems bit of a downgrade, it is still better than some mainstream smartphone brands. There is even a “Smart Rapid Charging” option on the Find X8 Pro that will let you charge it (fully charged). However, the charging time is just 48 minutes (which is not much of a deal breaker). While the smart rapid charging is enabled, the peak temperature is 36.1°C, pointed the report.

While fast charging is a handy feature, it has been a kind of gimmick in past couple of years. Manufacturers have tried their best to justify themselves through super-fast charging in the past but now it seems they have shifted their focus on long term battery health.
