Operation ‘Remove Screen’ against cyber crimes: 136 arrested in 3 days

Tamil Nadu : Police’s anti-cybercrime operation ‘Thirai Neeku-2’ led to the arrest of 136 people in 3 days.
The Cyber Crime Branch of the Tamil Nadu Police Department is conducting various activities and awareness programs to prevent cybercrimes. Under this, a special operation called ‘Operation Thirai Neeku-2’ was conducted from 2nd to 4th to take strict action against cybercriminals.
For this, investigation was conducted using data, information and biographical information about cybercriminals obtained through the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center and the National Cybercrime Registry. Apart from this, investigation was conducted using bank accounts, social media accounts and online money transaction details used by cybercriminals for fraud.
Out of these, 136 people were arrested for being involved in cybercrime. Investigation revealed that they were involved in 159 cybercrime cases. Most importantly, this operation unearthed a cyber fraud gang of 6 people, which had more than 30 fake companies and more than 100 fake bank accounts. The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Branch said that 125 mobile phones, 304 bank account documents, 88 cheque books, 107 ATM cards and 35 computers have been seized from the arrested persons. It is worth noting that a similar measure has already been taken for 8 days in December 2024 under the name ‘Screen Removal-1’.a
