Odisha: Two brothers arrested in Jagatsinghpur on charges of rape, blackmail and extortion

Odisha: Jagatsinghpur police have arrested two brothers in connection with a case of rape, sexual assault, blackmail, and extortion involving a woman. The action was taken following an investigation into a complaint filed earlier this week.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gyan Ranjan Nayak, alias Pupu, Adi, and Erics (20 years old), and his elder brother, Biswa Ranjan Nayak (24 years old). Both accused are residents of Ichhapur village in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district. According to police, they had been living in rented accommodation in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for some time.
According to a press note issued by the police, the victim is an unmarried woman from Jagatsinghpur district. She filed a written complaint at the Jagatsinghpur police station on May 14. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act and initiated an investigation.
During the investigation, police learned that the two accused targeted young women through the social media platform Instagram and personal contacts. They allegedly established relationships with the women and then recorded allegedly objectionable photos and videos of them during private moments.
According to police, these photos and videos were later used to threaten the victims and demand money from them. The investigation also revealed that the accused caused mental, physical, and financial harm to several women.
Police stated that based on the complaint and evidence, the two brothers have been detained and further legal action has been initiated. A detailed investigation into the case is underway to determine how many more people may be involved in such activities and how many victims have been affected.
