Odisha: Plus Two girl student allegedly sexually assaulted by invigilator at exam centre, commits suicide

Kendrapara: A Plus Two girl student committed suicide allegedly after being sexually assaulted by an invigilator at her exam centre in Odisha’s Kendrapara district.

As alleged by the girl’s mother, the student had gone to the Pattamundai College to write her Plus Two Commerce exam on February 24. After returning from the college the girl informed her mother that one of the invigilators allegedly harassed her sexually on pretext of a ‘copy-checking’ session at the common room. She further claimed that the Plus Two student committed suicide by hanging herself when they had gone out for some work on February 24.

The matter came to light only after the girl’s mother lodged a formal complaint with the Pattamundai Rural Police on March 1. Based on the complaint, cops led by IIC Dheeraj Lenka started an investigation into the matter.

The police team also reportedly visited Pattamundai College and verified the CCTV footages to ascertain the truth of the sexual assault allegations against the invigilator of the Pattamundai College.

Meanwhile, Pattamundai College Principal Dillip Kumar Bhuyan denied the allegation and said that they are cooperating with the cops in the investigation and did not find anything as per the allegations while checking the CCTV cameras of the college campus.

However, further probe into the matter is underway and the reality of the allegations will be known after completion of the investigation, said sources.
