Odisha: More than 1100 people lost their lives in human-elephant conflict in 10 years
Odisha: Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia told the Assembly on Tuesday that over 1,140 people have lost their lives in elephant attacks in Odisha in the last 10 years. “1,145 people have lost their lives in elephant attacks from 2013-14 to 2023-24,” the minister said in a written reply to a question by BJP MLA Prasanta Jagdev. Similarly, 719 elephants have died due to various reasons in the state in the last 10 years. The minister said at least 41 elephants were poached by poachers or wildlife smugglers in the state.
