Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi Begins Three-Day Kolkata Visit to Secure Fresh Investments

KOLKATA / BHUBANESWAR – Riding high on the success of the recent investment roadshow in Hyderabad, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi arrived in Kolkata on Thursday for a three-day high-stakes visit. The mission is part of the state government’s aggressive “investment outreach” strategy to position Odisha as the industrial powerhouse of Eastern India.
The Chief Minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain and senior officials like Chief Secretary Anu Garg and Industries Secretary Hemanta Sharma.
The visit is structured around targeted sectoral interactions aimed at drawing capital into Odisha’s burgeoning industrial landscape. According to government sources, the schedule for Friday includes three critical roundtable discussions:
Textiles and Apparels: Building on the momentum of the “Odisha TEX 2025” summit.
Metal Downstream and Engineering Goods: Leveraging Odisha’s vast mineral resources.
Plastics and Chemicals: Identifying these as core drivers for the next phase of the state’s expansion.
On Saturday, the Chief Minister is set to lead a high-level roundtable focused on Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, a sector where the state has seen significant recent growth.
The Kolkata visit follows a highly successful roadshow in Hyderabad last month, which secured investment proposals worth over ₹67,000 crore. That event alone saw the signing of 13 MoUs worth ₹27,650 crore, promising to create more than 56,000 jobs.
By engaging with the business community in West Bengal, the Odisha government aims to deepen partnerships within the eastern corridor. Officials stated that this outreach is a vital step toward the government’s broader vision of “Samruddha Odisha, Viksit Bharat”
The move highlights CM Majhi’s proactive approach to industrialization, following similar successful meets in New Delhi and Mumbai. By focusing on sectoral roundtables, the government intends to provide a “structured and investor-friendly” environment for corporate leaders in neighboring states.
The Chief Minister and his team are expected to hold dozens of one-on-one meetings with top industrialists before returning to Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
