Odisha: August deadline for VIMSAR state-of-the-art library

Sambalpur: The long-pending dream of a state-of-the-art library for Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla is likely to be fulfilled this year as the Public Works Department (PWD) targets to complete the complex. Is. august.

The complex, to be developed over an area of over 4,000 square feet at VIMSAR’s campus, will consist of a ground plus five (G+5) floor building. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 16.44 crore. As per the proposal, the seating capacity of the proposed library complex is 350. Besides this, the complex will also have a canteen with a seating capacity of 250, a lift, parking space and other facilities.

PWD II Superintending Engineer Ashok Lenka said that the work is going on at a good pace. At present the work of molding the roof of the third floor is going on. A target has been set to complete the construction by August this year.
At present, the Central Library of VIMSAR operates in a two-storey building and does not have enough space due to which students are facing problems for the last many years. The seating capacity of the existing library of VIMSAR, which has 1,000 undergraduate (UG) students, 350 postgraduate (PG) students and 150 house surgeons, is only around 150.

In 2020, junior doctors of the institute had demanded a state-of-the-art library complex at VIMSAR following which a proposal was sent to the state government in April the same year. Later in July 2021, the government approved the proposal for construction of a library-cum-canteen at the institute.
A medical student from the institute said that the current library cannot be used by everyone as it lacks adequate space. “Once the proposal for a modern library materialises, we will benefit as we will be able to get access to national and international journals for further research and preparation,” he said.
