Nurpur: Person sent to jail for cheque bouncing
Nurpur: Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Indora on Wednesday sentenced Ashok Kumar, resident of Indora, to two years imprisonment and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 9 lakh along with a penalty of Rs 2 lakh to complainant Surya Katoch. The accused had taken a loan of Rs 7 lakh from Surya and promised to return the money in a month. When the borrowed money was not returned, the complainant asked him for his money back. The accused gave him a cheque, but when Surya deposited it in the bank for clearance, the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds in Ashok’s bank account. The complainant had filed a petition in the court under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. In its order, the court has asked the accused to pay Rs 9 lakh to the complainant apart from two years’ imprisonment.
