Nokia has invested Rs 270 crore in Chennai.

Tamil Nadu: Commerce Minister TRB Rajaa has announced that Nokia will invest ₹270 crore in Chennai in the first phase.

In a statement, TRB Rajaa said, “Nokia has approached Tamil Nadu for research and development facilities for fixed networks. This will further strengthen the state’s leadership in the telecommunications sector.”

Nokia has opened its new research and development center at SIPCOT Siruseri in Chennai, which will create 200 jobs in Tamil Nadu.

Nokia is one of the state’s most significant R&D investors. The company has employed 1,000 engineers in Tamil Nadu since 1997.

This expansion stems from an MoU signed during Chief Minister Stalin’s visit to the US.

He added that the first phase of the project involves an investment of ₹270 crore (initially ₹220 crore was promised). The second phase is expected to see an investment of approximately ₹300 crore.
