No water in the tap? Why Municipal Corporation? Public protest for water
Maharashtra: For the last six-seven months, there has been a huge shortage of water in Goregaon Dindoshi area and on Monday, the people of the area took out a march to the ward office of the municipality. This march was led by Shiv Sena (Thackeray) party MLA from this ward, Sunil Prabhu. This time water is our right, it is not someone else’s father’s, if there is no tap, then why Municipal Corporation? Raising slogans like these, the residents stormed the municipality office. The citizens of Goregaon Dindoshi have been facing irregular water supply for the last few days. Water is being supplied at low pressure and the time of water supply is also not fixed. Also, due to inadequate supply, citizens quarrel among themselves.
After water comes, it lasts only for ten to fifteen minutes. The water that is available is also contaminated. Due to this, the citizens of this area are upset and on Monday, the residents took out a Ghagar Morcha at the Municipal Corporation P East Department office under the leadership of MLA Sunil Prabhu. Most of the residents participated in it. Water is not our right, it belongs to someone else, if there is no tap, then why Municipal Corporation? Who says we will give or not, we will not live without it, hay hay, Nagar Nigam hay hay etc. Such slogans filled the area. Women were present in large numbers. Carrying empty utensils, clapping and raising slogans, the march reached the Municipal Corporation P North East office in the morning. The march, which started from Appa Pada rickshaw stand, was taken to the Municipal Corporation office located at Ramlila Maidan.
The Dindoshi assembly constituency had adequate water supply before the 2024 general elections. However, after that, there has been a sudden shortage of water in this block. MLA Sunil Prabhu told that there is a huge shortage of water in Dindoshi block for the last six months. The reason for the low water pressure is being told that the Water Mechanics Department does not have people or contractors. However, no measures are being taken against this. Prabhu also said that the dilapidated water channels in this block need to be replaced. If the water supply is not restored even after this, then a sit-in will be held outside the Municipal Corporation office. Prabhu warned that if law and order deteriorates, the police administration, government and municipal administration will be responsible. Due to disruption in water supply, citizens of Appa Pada, Kranti Nagar, Prathamesh Nagar, Durga Nagar, Ramnagar, Durga Nagar Tekdi, Tanaji Nagar, Bandongari, Konkani Pada, Basuwala Compound, Pathanwadi areas are facing water shortage, and Dattawadi and Anandwadi are facing water shortage. Prabhu demanded that a water tank be constructed at A One Sweet Mart in Santosh Nagar, BMC Colony and new pumps with higher capacity be installed in place of old pumps for water supply.
