NLC contract fraud case: Supreme Court orders CBI probe

Tamil Nadu: The Madras High Court has ordered the CBI to investigate evidence of alleged irregularities worth ₹442 crore in the awarding of various contracts at the NLC.

Manikandan, a resident of Cuddalore, has filed a petition in the Madras High Court alleging irregularities worth ₹442 crore in the awarding of various construction contracts at the Neyveli Lignite Company. These irregularities include the sale of ash, the extension of expired contracts beyond the terms of the contract, and the illegal removal of 73,000 tons of red mud. NLC officials are involved in these irregularities.

I have complained to the CBI about this irregularity, but no action has been taken yet. Therefore, they have asked that the CBI be ordered to register a case and investigate based on my complaint.

When the case came up for hearing before Justice M. Nirmal Kumar, the CBI stated that the petitioner had not submitted complete evidence in support of his complaint. Furthermore, he failed to appear when summoned for questioning.

The judge hearing the case then issued the following order:

A case cannot be registered without the allegations made in the complaint. Therefore, the petitioner must submit evidence to support the complaint filed against the NLC officials.

Furthermore, if the CBI calls for an investigation, the petitioner must appear and submit the evidence in his possession and cooperate with the investigation. The CBI should investigate and take legal action based on the evidence provided by the petitioner, and the case was closed.
