Nipah: Containment zones in 5 wards of Malappuram

Kerala: With Nipah being confirmed again in the district, the district administration has imposed restrictions. The district collector said that restrictions have been imposed in 5 wards of panchayats that are in the contact list of the 24-year-old man who died of Nipah. There is containment in 5 wards of Tiruvalli and Mampat panchayats. Wards 4, 5, 6 and 7 of Tiruvalli and ward 7 of Mampad have been declared as containment zones. Restrictions will be in place in these places as per protocol. The collector also directed to postpone the Prophet’s Day rally scheduled to be held on Monday in these wards to another day. The district health department had already issued an order making masks compulsory in these places. A 23-year-old man who died in Perinthalmanna last week was confirmed to have Nipah on Sunday. The youth’s saliva sample was confirmed to be positive for Nipah in a PCR test conducted by the Kozhikode Medical.

After symptoms of brain fever were found in the young man who died in a private hospital, Nipah virus was suspected in the death investigation conducted by the medical officer. After this, samples were sent to Pune Virology Lab. Nipah has been officially confirmed in this. The young man has undergone treatment in 4 private hospitals. Apart from this, he has traveled to some places with his friends. Information of all of them has been collected and those who came in direct contact have been transferred to isolation. Samples were sent for examination after some mild symptoms were seen in 5 people living in isolation. So far 151 people are in the primary contact list. Meanwhile, apart from the deceased youth, symptoms of Nipah were also found in 3 more people suffering from fever in Tiruvalli Panchayat. 2 of these people are from Mancheri Medi. College was sent for examination. Officials said that they are being monitored separately. After the suspicion of Nipah, prevention activities have also been intensified in Tiruvalli Panchayat.
