Nine Bangladeshis detained for ‘unauthorized’ entry into Puri’s Jagannath temple

Odisha Police have detained nine Bangladeshis for unauthorized entry into Puri’s Jagannath temple, an official said on Monday.

He said some activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad found that several Bangladeshi non-Hindus had entered the 12th century temple violating temple norms, following which they were detained on Sunday evening and lodged a complaint at Singhdwar police station. Registered.

Puri’s Additional SP Sushil Mishra said that after receiving the complaint, a police team reached the spot and detained the tourists for questioning.
“We have received a complaint that some non-Hindu people from Bangladesh have entered the temple. Additional Superintendent of Police said, we have detained nine Bangladeshis and started interrogating them.
As per temple rules, only Hindus are allowed to enter the temple.

Mishra said, if they are found to be non-Hindus, action will be taken against them as per law.
“We are verifying his passport. It turned out that one of them was a Hindu. We are checking passports of other people. “Preliminary investigation suggests that four of the nine detainees entered the temple,” he said.
