New ILS system at Agartala airport to become operational from March 21

Instrument Landing System (ILS) has been recently installed at Agartala Airport. This system is designed to assist aircraft operations in low visibility conditions. This system is going to be operational on March 21. An official gave this information on Tuesday.

This system uses radio signals to guide pilots during landing approaches even in adverse weather conditions such as rain, low clouds and fog.
The official further said, “The previous ILS system at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) airport was decommissioned in April last year due to expiry of its shelf life.
This created challenges for pilots landing at the airport in difficult weather conditions.
“The new system will ensure visibility of 800 meters for pilots to land even in difficult conditions,” the official said.
