New generation of Suzuki WagonR likely to be a full hybrid, might launch in India
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R has been one of the best-selling cars offered by the manufacturer in India. The Wagon R offers a distinguished style in the form of a boxy cabin and is usually associated with the middle class car owners in India. The current generation of the Wagon R is the third generation of the hatchback and it is available with CNG option too. However, the new generation of the car will be a full hybrid, initially reported Rushlane publication citing source from Japan.
If the sources are to be believed the new gen Suzuki WagonR will be the first mini-car that will be offered by the company with hybrid setup. The new hatchback will be offering inline 3 DOHC, 0.66-litre hybrid engine. While the ICE engine will generate 54PS, the electric motor will generate 10PS. The torque output of the car will be 58Nm and 29.5 Nm respectively. There will be an electric continuously variable transmission (eCVT).
Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R (Japan variant) in its full hybrid guise will be 3395mm in length, 1475mm in width and 1650mm in height. The wheelbase of the hatchback will be 2460mm while the kerb weight will be 850kg. The hatchback will be having sliding doors for the Japan market. The new gen Wagon-R is expected to launch in 2025.
When it comes to emission, the Suzuki WagonR full hybrid will have less emission as compared to ICE. The running cost of the WagonR hybrid will be less than the ICE trims. Even though we do not have any idea about the efficiency, it is supposed to be good. The Grand Vitara hybrid offers a fuel-efficiency of 27.97 kmpl and this is better than that of WagonR (i.e. 25.19 kmpl). The WagonR hybrid will easily have a mileage of 30 kmpl. The CNG variant currently offers 33.47 km/kg of mileage.
If Maruti Suzuki WagonR full hybrid launches in India, it might have a starting price of under Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
