Netflix will stop supporting first-generation Fire TV devices on June 3

Business Business: If you’re holding on to one of Amazon’s first Fire TV devices, now’s the time to upgrade.Netflix has confirmed that it will discontinue support for certain early Amazon Fire TV models from June 3, as first reported by German outlet Heise and later confirmed by ZDNet for U.S. users. The move affects devices that are more than a decade old.
In a statement to a renowned publishing house, Amazon spokesperson Jane Lurie Ridings said: “Netflix will discontinue support for certain first-generation Fire TV devices, which were introduced more than 10 years ago. Netflix will remain available on all other Fire TV devices.”This includes the first-generation Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote. Users with these models may be eligible for a discount on a new Fire TV Stick and are encouraged to contact Amazon customer service for more information.
Those who are unsure if their device is affected can check in Settings > My Fire TV > About to confirm their model. While Netflix hasn’t revealed the exact reason for the shutdown, a recent update on its support page indicates compatibility issues with older hardware. The company noted that it may drop support for devices that “can no longer receive required updates from their manufacturer or support new features.” Netflix also added error codes R4, R12, and R25-1 to flag unsupported devices. Netflix has not released any official statement on the decision.
