Neeraj Chopra surprised the children by making a surprise visit to the school in Bengaluru

Bengaluru (IANS) | Children of a Bangalore school were left in awe when Neeraj Chopra, India’s first Olympic champion in track and field, made a surprise appearance. Chopra, who returned to India amid training, reached Vishwa Vidyapeeth in Yelahanka on Saturday and spent time with young children, who are part of the school’s sports programme.

“Whenever I am able to bring a smile on the faces of little kids, it gives me immense joy and it was even more special because they were not expecting me to be there,” Neeraj was quoted as saying in the media release.

I had some time between reaching Bengaluru and going to an event and I am glad I could make the best use of it. I hope that meeting me will inspire them in their journey as young athletes.

Chopra, who is also set to visit the Inspire Institute of Sport in Bellary, spent time talking to young children, signing autographs and reminiscing his Olympic gold-winning achievement.

The most special moment of the day came when more than 30 children joined Chopra in recreating the national anthem played at her medal ceremony at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
